About me
My name is Carlos A. Catania, but everybody calls me Harpo (long story). I consider myself an old computer geek with pretty decent social skills. I’m from Mendoza - Argentina.
I started with computers when I was eight (or maybe nine, not pretty sure really) years old in the 80s. Back then, a friend of mine had a beautiful Sinclair CZ1000 with 1K of RAM. We enjoyed playing very simple games on a black & white TV.
Since then, I have always been involved in computer-related stuff. I coded a couple of games for Commodore 64. I ran a BBS in the 90s for almost 3 years (CYBERIA BBS). I helped to create the Local LINUX user group at the beginning of the century (LUGMen). Some the mailing list archives are still online.
Now and for the last 15 years, I have been involved in Applied Machine Learning Research.I’m the current Head of the Laboratory of Intelligent systems (LABSIN) at the School of Engineering at the University of Cuyo in Mendoza, Argentina
Education: I have a Ph.D. in Computer Science (UNICEN, Argentina) and a master’s degree in Computer Networks from Mendoza University.
Research Interests: Machine Learning applied to Computer Network Security and also to navigation systems, agriculture, livestock, and Biology among others.
